Prescott Knitting Scene

It’s a mere seven months since the Prescott Farmers Market welcomed the chance to include a free booth for knitters in town to meet up and knit in public, two Saturdays in a row. Since then, we’ve come together as a group on the popular social networking site Ravelry, to form “Prescott Knitters.” Joining Ravelry to keep in touch with one other is free. Let me know if you have trouble joining and finding our forum.

We now have three recurring meetups in Prescott where “Prescott Knitters” gather regularly to knit in public, share techniques and patterns, participate in all kinds of wacky contests, knit kid’s hats for Stepping Stones, and plan excursions and special events. While we’re not a guild, we are open to any ideas that help continue the art of knitting.

Knitters of all ages and experience levels are invited to join us at our very informal meetups, which are:

  • Thursday evenings at the Iron Springs Starbucks, from 5:00pm – 7:30pm
  • Saturday afternoons at Method Coffee, 1:00pm – 4:00pm
  • Pints of Yarn: the second Tuesday of the month, usually at the Raven Cafe in downtown Prescott, from 5:00pm – 7:30pm

One of our upcoming events is the first “Fiber Journeys,” scheduled for Thursday evening, January 28, from 5:00 – 7:30 at A Good Yarn, in downtown Prescott. Here’s the scoop:

Kristin Hansen, designer, instructor, writer, and knitting nanny will share her approach to the design process in a lecture on Thursday January 28 at A Good Yarn, 5:00 p.m. – 7:30.

Please note that this program is lecture format, not a hands on class. Following her discussion, Kristin will take questions and then her patterns will be available for sale. A big thank you to Deb at A Good Yarn for staying open late so you can shop for yarn following the presentation.

The Thursday evening knitting meetup at Starbucks is still on for those planning to attend that, but this activity is being held during that time slot since Prescott Knitters meetup members dreamed up the idea initially and Starbucks isn’t a suitable venue for it.

How to sign up
Space is limited to 20 participants. The event is free but you do need to register in advance to help organizers plan. Please RSVP by emailing Katie at ktcosmos@LooseEnds.net

Kristin Hansen’s Ravelry persona is kehmaple. You can read more about Kristin at her site here: http://www.knittingnanny.com/

Got a special talent you’d like to share with other Prescott Knitters in a Fiber Journey’s presentation? Let me know.

  1. What a lovely happenstance that we found this blog, as eight women from the Cactus Needles Knitting Guild (Phoenix area) are coming to Prescott on the weekend of March 20th for a knitting retreat. Perhaps we can meeting up with you at the Method Coffee shop on Saturday afternoon. It would be great to join fellow knitters for some coffee and yarn.

  2. I am really looking to hosting the Destash party in April to freshen up our individual yarn stashes! It should be fun!

  3. Sounds like fun, but I was looking for a group in Prescott Valley in the daytime. I don’t like going out at night. Would it be possible to start one in Prescott Valley as well?

  4. Lourna,
I know there are some groups in Prescott Valley, but I don’t know if they are private or open to all. I suggest you join http://www.Ravelry.com (free to join) and then once you do, join the group called “Prescott Knitters.” You can post in that group that you are looking for a PV group to join and I bet you’ll hear back shortly.
