Prescott Knitters and Yarn Shops
By ktcosmos on Jun 23, 2006 in Knitting and Yarn
Yarns. Who can resist them? Winter brings on a resurgence in knitting among myself and my knitter friends, and I am one who actually creates errands which will involve waiting so that I can work on my current projects while standing in line! It’s also the time of year when my racquetball buddy, Christy, and I haul our yarn bags to the gym. After we sweat on the court, we sit in the cafe over coffee and needles, working out all the complexities of -modern womanhood over our knitting.
The shop that draws me like a fly is “A Good Yarn” in downtown Prescott. The owner came up with the idea to create the kind of environment portrayed in the book by the same name, by Debbie Macomber (see at left). In fact, the owner of the shop is also named Deb. I have found it ideally located for my daily forays to downtown and the large plate glass windows and sun drenched wood floors just draw me back again and again. Any shopkeeper who will sit on the floor with her customers and just play together with yarn, imagining what it could become is my kind of gal!
Located in the old downtown FireStation, “A Good Yarn” is at 220 West Goodwin, Suite 6. After you buy your yarn, walk around to the other side of the building to (Biff’s whoops, they aren’t around any more!) Pangaea’s and work out your gauge over a nice hot lattĂ©.
Naturally, you will have parked in the Downtown Parking garage, where parking is free on days when Prescott is not having a special event in the downtown area. And, the garage is conveniently located—it’s right next door to “A Good Yarn.”
“A Good Yarn” offers classes and open knitting times in their “knit pit.” On the last Friday evening of the month, you can join Deb and others for a relaxing evening of “knit & sip.” Pictured are some scenes from May 2007′s evening gathering.
We have other nice yarn shops in Prescott as well. Care to comment on your favorite?
If you’d like to see some of the knitty things I’ve been working on, you can check them out at the Loosely Speaking blog.

I have read all the Blossom Street series and visit Prescott often.
Please give me the schedule for beginners.
I,ll be there!

Hi Bea, I have forwarded your request for the schedule to Debra Dorrell, who owns the yarn shop I spoke of above. I am sure Deb will get in touch with you to let you know about the schedule.
Thank you for stopping by AboutPrescottArizona.com
