More delectability, please!

For a town without its own cinema, you might think we were lacking in other amenities.

Whenever criticized for not having this-or-that, I think we Prescottonians just prefer to chalk it up to being a small far western town. Things are pretty much just the way we like it.

Two amenities we WERE missing until recently are locally made donuts and bagels, and now we have both!

Delicious locally made donuts from Prescott Donut Factory

Yummy donuts!

In the location of the old beloved Prescott Pantry, Michael Piequet has opened the Prescott Donut Factory. This is how you know they’re good: he runs out many days. Who wants a stale donut, right? So courteous, so hardworking, and so willing to work with you on custom orders, Mike is a real gentleman. It may stress him out if some people decide they would rather have grocery store donuts, but, hey! That just ensures that people who love a huge variety baked daily by the very guy that waits on you at the counter will have the perfect spot for a coffee break.

Prescott Donut Factory is at 1201 Iron Springs Road, #13 (there’s a sandwich board out front, and they’re located next to a gun shop and near a laundry; across the street from Prescott Honda). If you’re from out of town, take a run out Montezuma to Iron Springs Road to find Mike. Maybe go first thing in the morning and then go back to exploring historic downtown Prescott. If you wait till noon, you may be out of luck. 928.771.1147. (Website coming soon; I’ll add a link to it when it is live).

And, speaking of coffee and downtown Prescott, we also are lucky to have Olde World Bagels & Market, tucked into the ever evolving Park Plaza, which is anchored by Goodwin Street Pharmacy. Park Plaza has been developing into an interesting collective of eateries in the past few years and Olde World is the latest and, perhaps, the most elegantly turned out.

Owners Eric and Gina Foreste have created a charming bistro style space where you can get freshly boiled and baked bagels and flavored cream cheeses at one counter and also available are espresso drinks. They also have moon pies and a limited selection of cookies and scones.

They’re still developing a menu which will include sandwiches, and there are plans to introduce imported cheeses and some elegant linens, as well as expanding into another space for retail and adding a patio out front.

On my first visit, I was meeting a colleague and recording an audio interview with her for my podcast. The atmosphere was the perfect background for our conversation and the price! I got a bagel with plain cream cheese and a bottled water, price tag $3.00! Delicious and made just right.

Located at 404 West Goodwin Street (phone is 928.771.0441), Olde World Bagels & Market’s hours are 8:00 – 2:00 Tuesday – Saturday and 8:00 – 1:00 on Sundays. Here’s a link to their Facebook page.

  2. We love the Prescott Donut Factory. And I don’t hate the idea of a new bagel shop either ;) Are you a Prescott native? You write like you know the area well.

  3. Hi Aunt B,

I’m not a native, but I did give birth to one 23 years ago, haha. Also, I am married to a second generation native Prescottonian, so I sometimes pretend to be original myself.

How about you? Are you from here? Or Mayberry?
