Special Note: This page is dedicated to the memory of Dave Kesterson, who passed away on January 23, 2008.
Dave gave endlessly to our community, and will always be remembered for his contributions to Prescott Little League. He personally touched so many lives and we will never forget that smile.

I volunteer at both YRMC and the Salvation Army and think both are truly worthwhile. But I’m an amateur musicion (cello)and would like to become involved in getting students interested in playing instruments. I was involved with the Musical Memories program last Spring and was very excited to see how enthusiastic the 5th graders I worked with were about listening to, and playing music. Any ideas??

How old do you have to be to volunteer for the Heritige Park Zoo? I am eleven years old and this really interests me for a profect at school. I know Daniel Jannone, who used to do the kids summer project there. He was my 4th grade teacher.

Morgan, I don’t know. Why don’t you give them a call. I bet they would enjoy having a young person on hand.

I would like to start up a volunteer group. It would be a knitting group that would knit scarves and hats for those in need. It could be a program where there would be drop-offs, or a monthly knitting group, or both. We could donate these to shelters, VA Hospital, homeless, etc. If you have any information as how this organization can be started, please let me know. There is a group, online in Kentucky, that donated 2,497 scarves to those in need last year.

Karen,
Great idea.
You probably know that A Good Yarn ( on the corner of Goodwin and Granite in Prescott) hosts charity knitting activities. I am guessing you would like to start a group of your own. I was thinking you might check in with Deb at A Good Yarn and ask her advice on getting started. Some of the people who knit at her shop might also be interested in your group.
Once you have a date and location, I will add it to the Community Calendar here on AboutPrescottArizona.com.
Also, I’ll be posting the date and time of the next Institute for Sustainable Social Change hosted “Community Conversation.” You might attend that and make an announcement to see if you can find others interested. ( I may want to join, too!)
