The Raven Café has implemented a creative way to display various types of art to the community while creating a casual yet quietly hip environment.

David Bright, the Art Director for The Raven, believes that displaying art from local artists in the Café helps make it more community friendly and beneficial to the art world as a whole.

“I like to include all different kinds of artists,” says Bright.  “No one show defines the Raven.”

Bright has been involved in the art community in Prescott since he moved here in the early 90’s.  He has seen a noticeable decline in art sales due to the recession but believes the foundation for the arts is strong in the city.

When he moved here Bright, an artist from Los Angeles, started working at “The Framers Market,” a store to help artists of any age or skill level to display their work in a professional manner.

The Raven Café, which opened three years ago, hired Bright to help decorate its walls 365 days a year.

The shows generally last six weeks to two months featuring all different types of art media.

Currently they are displaying “Beyond Printmaking II” featuring nine different local artists.
Bright believes these shows benefit the community in many ways.

“It fits in with the concept of the Raven overall.  We really try to keep things local.”

In addition to his work at The Raven and The Framers Market Bright works with
Big Brothers Big Sisters and many schools throughout Prescott to help children get started in the arts at an early age.

“I’ve been framing for 28 years now, and you can always learn something new,” says Bright.

The Raven Café is located at 142 N. Cortez.  The Show “Beyond Printmaking II” runs until January 10.
